System and infrastructure implementation

Regarding infrastructure, we work with Trusts' existing and new suppliers as well as technology partners, to review and upgrade networks (both WAN and LAN). This work area will need to grow in preparation for NPfIT solutions but also to deliver on local business needs for increased resilience and performance.

On the system implementation side our approach is based on the use of formal planning processes (PRINCE2) to establish a firm basis and controlled start to the project, followed by careful management of supplier relationships and the staff who will actually use the systems concerned.

Our philosophy is to “walk then run” regarding the use of system functionality to ensure that confidence is built and data quality remains high at all times. We regard “go live” dates as a start point not an end point.

Working with staff and managers we believe it is important to generate an agreed development path, after the initial go live. In this way all concerned can see what the use of the system is aiming to achieve as an end goal.

This approach ensures that realism is combined with a shared set of objectives and vision, and that steady progress is made with ownership maintained throughout.
