Dr Colin Fincham MBBS, LLB(Hons) - Director

As a qualified doctor, with 13 years of experience in hospital medicine and Primary care, and also a degree in Law, Colin is a healthcare consultant with special interest in data security. He is currently fulfilling the role as the Programme Manager for the Access Control (Registration) Team within Connecting for Health. The Access Control team is responsible for producing the policy and guidance governing Registration Authorities who register staff for the NHS Care Record Service and other NPFIT services.

Additionally, he has been supporting Trusts in compliance with the Information Governance toolkit, as well as providing general consultancy in relation to Data Security and Information Governance

As part of his roles he has also provided advice and guidance to Trusts implementing the Cerner Millennium® Acute product in London and the South in respect to data migration.

Geoff Broome - Director

Geoff Broome has worked in NHS IM&T related project areas for nearly 20 years. During this time he has worked at national and local levels in projects covering all NHS sectors.

Recent work includes ICT Associate Director level roles in both PCT and Mental Health settings and work within the Department of Health on performance management for the national sexual health GUM access target.

Other work undertaken has included the specification, procurement and implementation of enterprise wide and smaller patient systems covering workstreams such as infrastructure, stakeholder engagement, training, benefits realisation and information governance.

Ten years ago Geoff founded Apira which is now an established consultancy with a wide portfolio of national and local work. This includes deployment and exploitation of National Programme solutions such as CRS and Choose and Book as well as non-NPfIT related developments.

Geoff is dedicated to adding value and delivering client required outcomes from an independent perspective. He achieves this by building strong and open client relationships and applying his extensive consultancy, project and programme management skills and experience.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
     
 
Mark Jones – Managing Director

Mark is an experienced business leader and healthcare consultant, in a career spanning 22 years. He has led two businesses (including Apira) since 1992 and has built up an extensive portfolio of work during this time. Mark’s strength lies in his ability to confidently lead major projects and teams, such as CRS and PACS which have all been successfully deployed.

He attaches particular importance to the concept of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and always seeks to build and develop close relationships with all Apira customers and associate companies, working in partnership to achieve mutual goals. This value has been key to the development of Apira over the last six years.

Mark is a Prince2 Practitioner and holds a BA (Hons) in Business Studies.

  • PACS deployment at a London Acute Trust
  • Infection Control software deployment at a London Acute Trust

Alan Brown - Managing Consultant

Alan is an experienced IM&T Professional with a career spanning several IT Leadership roles in the health, manufacturing and automotive industries. He has been working in the health services since 2002 and is the former Director of IM&T in a large Mental Health Trust.

Key Achievements

  • Implemented RiO as the NHS-CRS in a large Mental Health Trust covering 30+ sites and 4,000 employees
  • Led a strategic restructure and programme development including and intranet, Document Management, Communications Coverage and Clinical Systems
  • Devised IT Strategy for a national private GP Service
  • Named Public Sector CIO Innovator for the Year 2007
  • Awarded an ICI Silver Award for project management

Simon Martin - Managing Consultant

Simon Martin has a career spanning 22 years, 15 years managing corporate IT departments in various commercial sectors and 7 years of Programme/Project Management, across both the private and public sectors. He has been working in the NHS since 2004, commencing with Hammersmith Acute Hospital and has since then also worked with PCT and Mental Health Trusts.

  • Implemented a multi-sited A&E system
  • Implemented RiO to a PCT, on budget and earlier than planned
  • Managed the IT and Telecommunications projects for a new build
  • Currently managing all of the CRS preparation activities for a large Mental Health Trust covering over 260 sites and 3500 staff

Andrew Moss - Consultant

Andrew is an experienced Project Manager, specialising in IT related projects and business consultancy. He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and Mathematics and is a Prince2 Practitioner.

With over 20 years experience, Andrew’s skill-set is broad; he has worked in a variety of different technology based roles in Health Care, Banking/Finance, and Telecoms. His focus has been on the business aspects of IT and has worked in both private and public sectors. Recent projects include:

  • The planning and development of key emergency services (EAU , Hot HDU and Cold HDU) at a London Acute Trust
  • The completion of a major outsourcing business case for a Primary Care Trust
  • The production of a national survey report assessing workload for contraceptive-health service providers

Denise Butterfield – Senior Consultant

Denise is a pro-active NHS IT project manager with three years senior management and 6 years IT Project Management experience. She has a Bachelors degree in War Studies and Classical Studies and is a Prince2 Practitioner.

Denise has been at the forefront of the NHS National Programme for IT since its inception. She has obtained a clear understanding of the current major NHS IT change agenda through a high level of operational project management over the last 6 years.

Recent projects include:

  • Programme Management of a RiO V5 upgrade for a Mental Health Trust
  • Setting up a Registration Authority for a Mental Health Trust, including all related procedures and guidance
  • Planning and developing a training program for RiO for a PCT, including Training Needs Analysis, strategy and policy writing
  • Setting up a Registration Authority for a PCT, including developing policies and procedures

Sastry Srinivasa - Head of Technical Services

Sastry Srinivasa heads the Technical Services Practice Area at Apira. He has over 7 years of experience in Healthcare IT that includes 4 years working for a large supplier in rolling out CRS systems to Acute Trusts. His ability to approach complex problems by breaking them into simpler components and then building solutions that address the specific requirements of the Customer is well appreciated by everyone involved in the projects.


During the early years of his career, Sastry was involved in developing and customising software applications for large hospitals in the Asia-Pacific region and the US. In recent years working on the National Programme in the UK as a technical lead/ consultant on deployment projects, Sastry has gained in-depth functional knowledge about the NHS that complements his technical know-how. To further strengthen his knowledge base in the Healthcare domain, Sastry has obtained a certification in HL 7 messaging. As a member of the HL 7 organisation, Sastry constantly stays abreast with the developments in Healthcare messaging standards in the UK and across the world.

He is recognised by Customers for the confidence he demonstrates in leading technical teams and the commitment he shows in delivering projects on time and budget. His core technical strengths are:

  • Data migration;
  • Data warehousing;
  • System configuration; and
  • System integration.
